Spiti Valley Bike Expedition
Experience Spiti in the Final Riding Season
A Spiti bike trip in October offers a quieter and more raw Himalayan experience. Crisp mountain air, clear skies, fewer travellers and the changing autumn colours make this a beautiful time to explore Kinnaur and Spiti Valley.
Your journey begins from Chandigarh and continues towards Shimla, where your motorcycle is handed over and the riding expedition begins. The route takes you through Narkanda, Chitkul, Kalpa, Nako, Tabo and Kaza before returning through the Kinnaur side towards Chandigarh.
Begin your 7N/8D Himalayan journey from Chandigarh and continue towards Shimla.
Enjoy fewer crowds, crisp autumn weather and a more peaceful experience across Kinnaur and Spiti.
Road captain, mechanic, backup vehicle and essential on-road support throughout the expedition.
Two Ways to Ride Spiti.
Pick up your motorcycle in Shimla and return it in Shimla. Choose between the Kinnaur return route or the complete Spiti circuit through Chandratal and Manali.
Shimla Return Route
A balanced Spiti ride through Kinnaur that returns to Shimla from the same side. This route is ideal when the Chandratal–Manali road is closed or when you prefer a more predictable return journey.
Collect your motorcycle in Shimla, complete the pre-ride briefing and begin your Spiti journey. Ride through the beautiful mountain roads towards Narkanda and settle in for your first overnight stay.
Ride from Narkanda towards Kinnaur and continue through the scenic Sangla Valley. Follow the Baspa River and enjoy the dramatic mountain roads before reaching Chitkul for the night.
Leave Chitkul and continue through Kinnaur towards Kalpa before riding deeper into the high-altitude landscape. The terrain becomes more dramatic as you approach Nako for your overnight stay.
Ride from Nako into the cold-desert landscapes of Spiti Valley. Visit Tabo en route and continue through spectacular Trans-Himalayan roads before reaching Kaza.
Spend the day riding through the famous villages and landmarks around Kaza. Depending on road conditions, the route may include Key Monastery, Kibber, Chicham, Langza, Hikkim and Komic.
Begin your return ride from Kaza and retrace the spectacular Spiti route towards Nako. Enjoy another perspective of the valley while descending gradually towards Kinnaur.
Continue the return journey through Kinnaur, following mountain roads and river valleys towards Sarahan for the final overnight halt before Shimla.
Ride from Sarahan back towards Shimla and complete your Spiti bike journey. Return the motorcycle in Shimla after arrival and conclude the trip.
This option starts and ends in Shimla. It is suitable for early-season and late-season rides when the Kaza–Chandratal–Manali route may not be accessible.
Weather, snowfall, landslides or road conditions may require changes to the daily riding plan for rider safety.
Full Spiti Circuit
Ride from Shimla through Kinnaur and Spiti, cross the Chandratal–Manali section and complete the journey by returning the motorcycle in Shimla.
Collect your motorcycle in Shimla, complete the bike briefing and begin the ride towards Narkanda. This shorter first day gives you time to settle into the motorcycle before the longer Himalayan sections.
Ride through the beautiful Kinnaur region and enter Sangla Valley. Continue beside the Baspa River and finish the day in Chitkul, surrounded by dramatic Himalayan scenery.
Continue from Chitkul towards Kalpa and then deeper into the upper Kinnaur region. The road gradually becomes more remote and dramatic as you approach Nako.
Ride into Spiti Valley through its stark Trans-Himalayan landscapes. Visit Tabo en route and continue towards Kaza, your main base for exploring the valley.
Spend the day riding through the famous villages, monasteries and high-altitude roads around Kaza. The route may include Key, Kibber, Chicham, Langza, Hikkim and Komic depending on accessibility.
Leave Kaza and ride towards one of the most adventurous sections of the circuit. Continue through Losar and the rugged high-altitude terrain towards Chandratal for the night.
Ride the rugged Chandratal–Batal–Gramphoo section towards Manali. This is one of the most memorable riding days of the circuit, with rough roads, water crossings and dramatic mountain scenery.
Leave Manali and complete the final ride back to Shimla. On arrival, return the motorcycle in Shimla and conclude the full Spiti circuit.
The Chandratal–Manali section operates only when the road is officially open and conditions are suitable for riding.
If the route is closed because of snow, landslides or unsafe conditions, the trip may be shifted to the Shimla Return Route.
